The trek begins with a morning drive from Moshi or Arusha to Marangu Gate. Registration with park authorities is followed by meeting your guides, porters, and chef. The rainforest trail features towering trees, ferns, and playful monkeys. Gradual uphill makes for a comfortable first day. Optional afternoon walk to Maundi Crater provides panoramic views of Mawenzi Peak.

Day 2 Mandara Hut To Horombo Hut (3,720m)

Leaving the rainforest, the trail enters heath and moorland. Alpine plants and giant lobelias appear while Kilimanjaro and Mawenzi peaks come into view. Steady pace supports acclimatization. Afternoon rest at Horombo Hut, short hikes nearby optional.

Day 3 Horombo Hut Acclimatization Day

Climb toward Zebra Rocks or nearby ridge for acclimatization. Return to Horombo Hut for rest. Climb high, sleep low method helps oxygen adaptation. Afternoon is free for hydration, rest, and photography.

Day 4 Horombo Hut To Kibo Hut (4,700m)

The trail becomes rocky and alpine. Views of Kibo and Mawenzi dominate the landscape. Slow, steady hiking is key. Arrive at Kibo Hut for light meals and rest before the summit attempt.

Day 5 Kibo Hut To Uhuru Peak (5,895m) To Horombo Hut

Elevation 4,700m to 5,895m then descend to 3,720m

Summit attempt begins around midnight. Steep scree ascent to Gilman Point and then Uhuru Peak. Expert guides support pace and motivation. After summit photos, descend to Kibo Hut, then continue to Horombo Hut for overnight recovery.
